Indonesia is the world's sixth-largest cocoa producer and the world's fifth-largest exporter of processed cocoa in 2020. Cocoa plants, like coffee plants, grow in most parts of Indonesia. Cocoa production is tremendously beneficial to Indonesian business since it allows the country to meet both domestic and international demand.

Previously, Indonesia exported far more cocoa beans than cocoa goods. Cocoa butter is currently a major element in processed cocoa export from Indonesia. This shows that the country's cocoa processing industry is strengthening and becoming more capable of supplying global markets. Furthermore, the number of artisan chocolate manufacturers in Indonesia has recently expanded. Several of them sell a wide range of chocolate items with a distinct Indonesian flavour. In addition to producing superior chocolate goods, they offer a variety of programs to assist their partner farmers.

In 2020, Indonesia exported USD 1.2 million worth of cocoa products, a slightly increase over the previous year which valued USD 1.15 million. Over the last few years, the export trend has increased at around 1%, while the volume of chocolate goods shipped has climbed by more than 60% compared to the previous period.

Indonesia is well-known for its cocoa production, in addition to being the nest coffee producer in the world. One of Indonesia's most important agricultural exports is cocoa beans. Indonesia currently has 1.5 million hectares of cocoa plantations. Small farmers provide over 90% of Indonesia's chocolate production. Smallholders in Indonesia account for the vast majority of national production, exceeding both huge state and private plantations. The rapid increase of smallholder participation has been a participating factor of significant growth in Indonesia's cocoa business over the previous 25 years.

According to The World Cocoa Foundation, worldwide cocoa demand has increased by 3% each year over the last 100 years. Global cocoa demand is expected to rise by the same amount in the following years. Indonesia is one of the world's leading producers and exporters of cocoa products. The ability to produce vast quantities of cocoa goods at affordable costs is Indonesia's key edge today.

Cocoa is used in a variety of dishes, including milkshakes, confectioneries, cakes, and cereals. Despite how popular chocolate is, most people have no idea how to manufacture such a distinctive and popular chocolate product. Cocoa goes through a long and complicated production process before being turned into the many dishes mentioned above. Cleaning, roasting, removing shells, grinding nibs, separating cocoa from cocoa butter, and so on are all steps in the cocoa production process.
