Natural Kernel Leaves or katapang (Terminalia catappa) is the name of a type of shady beachside tree. Quickly growing and forming a beautiful terraced canopy, ketapan is often used as a shade tree in parks and roadsides. In short, ketapan leaves are leaves on the ketapan tree. Generally, ketapang trees grow on shady shores. Ketapang leaves contain many minerals and nutrients which make them an excellent food source for many fish and shrimp. Although most of the content will be released into the water, fish can get extra by scraping and eating the leaves. It will also add a lot of fiber to the fish's digestive system. When ketapang leaves are in water, it will often be overgrown with small algae and microorganisms. This makes ketapang leaves more attractive to plant-eating fish species up to 40 m high and stems up to 1.5 m. A shady canopy with branches that grow horizontally and terraced; young trees often look like pagodas. Old and large trees often have buttresses (root boards), up to 3 m in height. Pepagan and its leaves are used by people for tanning leather, as a black dye, and also to make ink. Pepagan produces a brownish yellow to olive color dye, and contains 11–23% tannins; while the leaves contain 12 kinds of tannins that can be hydrolyzed. Meanwhile, there is a popular belief among ornamental fish enthusiasts that placing dried ketapan leaves in the aquarium, especially Betta fish (Betta spp.), can improve fish health and prolong the life of the fish.
